Okay I think I discovered the best handmade gift ever. Not only is it super cheap to make but also quick and easy.
While in NY for Thanksgiving my sisters and I were talking about our knit ear warmers and how although they were super cute, they didn't always do the best job of keeping our ears warm. That's when I thought of Delia's ear warmer tutorial and thought I should give fleece a try.
I was totally inspired by Delia, but made mine a little differently. I doubled up my fleece and simply sewed the two pieces together, leaving the edges raw. I added two buttons so it could be adjusted and rounded the ends.
I love how they turned out. Cute but also toasty warm.
I stuck with rosettes, because they were quick and easy, but I can't wait to try some other designs.
These would make great gifts for your sisters, girlfriends, teachers, and co-workers. They only cost me about $1.25 each (I bought my fleece at 50% off) and they only took about 20 minutes each to make.
These are soooo cute! To bad it is 50 degrees in Chicago today and my ears do not need to be warmed ;) or else I would be searching in my scrap bin for some fleece....
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! The rosettes are adorable. You've planned my afternoon project! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are darling! I like that you doubled the fleece and the buttons are fun. I totally agree with the knit ones too. Pinning for another day. :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I think I see some of these in my future. Thanks for sharing.

Love 'em! I've been admiring those knit/crochet earwarmers, but don't have the patience. This is right down my alley. I will make one for me and a few for my daugher. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I'm pinning this so i can try it later!!
ReplyDeleteHow did you make the flower?? Do you have a pattern? I love the way these look. I can't wait to make one!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE THESE!
ReplyDeleteI hope when I go fleece shopping I can find some solid colors like you did. I usually only find cutesy-wootsy patterns that are too large for small projects.
For the above Catherine questions, I think I can help.
Click on the Delia credit link that she gave. You can get the pattern dimensions from there.
As for rosette tutorilas, go to YouTube and search Fabric rosettes. There are a ton of videos for you to watch. I learn SO much from YouTube!
LOOOOVE! And seriously inexpensive for such a useful and fabulous gift!
ReplyDeleteI like that you doubled up on the fabric - not only would it be warmer, it gives is more "finished" and expensive look.
ReplyDeletePS I made a few of these and LOVE them. Thank you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I would love to make one for myself and a few for gifts for my family. How do you make the adorable rosette? I have no idea how to go about getting the same results.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
i will pay you to make me one! please.
ReplyDeleteI don't sew, but was going to try this with iron on bonding tape, it might work....will also ask my friends that know how to sew, what they think about the bonding tape idea...thanks
ReplyDeleteI was so inspired by this I had to make one. I didn't leave the raw edge and used pink on one side and purple on the other. I used a plastic snap instead of buttons. I have no idea how to do button holes. I also made a little flower and put it on with a safety pin since it is reversible. I love it and can't wait to wear it today. Thanks for the idea!!!
