I spent every spare second last week frantically trying to put together costumes before the school carnival friday. It's been so long since I sat at the sewing machine I was a little scared that I wouldn't know what I was doing. Luckily, I kept things super simple and everything worked out.
This little girl would probably look cute in anything, but was thrilled to wear an old clown costume from a few years ago. You can see the original HERE.
I was so happy to use this costume again. The sleeves are my favorite part. She loves telling people she is a "silly clown".
All I had to do was clean it up and repair the hat.
This girl was kind enough to request a witch costume.
I was able to recycle most of the costume and only had to make the tutu.
When this one requested a bat costume, I instantly knew what I wanted it to look like. I knew I had seen something somewhere before but couldn't remember where. After several searches online I finally found Dana's bat costumes, which inspired our look.
Ours is a little more girly with the tutu.
Instead of black felt, I used purple satin on both sides of the wings. I love how the lighter stitching turned out.
And, instead of a hat we made a headband. Thanks Dana for sharing your bat ear shape, I'm sure it saved me a lot of time.
When my oldest son said he didn't want to dress up for Halloween my heart broke and I knew I just had to think of something cool enough. Since he already had long hair, I suggested he cut the sides for a bit and be a punk rocker. Don't worry, we'll cut the rest off after Halloween.
I have to admit it bothered me a bit at how comfortable he was with this look.
I cut the sleeves off a women's levi shirt, and added an iron-on scull to the back. I put together his wrist bands with supplies from JoAnn's. The spikes are actually beads glued to a vinyl band I sewed. I used E6000, it worked okay but by the end of our second party we had lost most of the spikes.
I also had to share this Astrid costume with you too. My sister made it for my niece and I love how it turned out.
My niece asked her mom to start a blog just to show it off. We're hoping this works instead.
She made the sculls with clay, drilled holes in the eyes and sewed them on with beads. Amazing.
If you're wondering about the baby. He got the short end of the stick this year. I ran out of steam and decided not to dress him up. In the end, I'm glad I didn't since he didn't go out with us to anything. He stayed home safe and warm with Grandma.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Man, that Astrid costume is amazing! I can't believe how much Clair looks like Sharon in these pictures. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteGreat costumes! That is for sure the cutest clown I've seen.
ReplyDeleteSo cute, so sweet
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled across your blog and love it! Its fun that your kids are all basically the same age as all of mine and we have the same 3 girls in the middle of 2 boys!
