Food Face How To

I am so glad some of you are wanting to make your own food face. They are fun and super easy to make.

What you need:
-A white ceramic plate ( I got mine at Walmart for $1.70 each)
-Pebeo Porcelaine paint pens , I used black, brown, and blue (I got mine at Micheals with a coupon)
-A photo of someone
-printer
-sharpie marker
-pencil
-ball point pen

Her is what I did:

First I printed off a picture of the face I wanted to use. I made it black and white and sized it to fit on the plate.
Then I traced the main features of the face with a sharpie marker.
Next I turned the page over and scribbled over all the lines with my pencil. You'll want it as dark as you can.
I flipped the picture back over cut it out and traced over my lines again with a pen.
Okay , this picture is really bad. I couldn't get my camera to pick up the small lines on the bright white plate. But if you look really close you can see how the face image is now on my plate.
I followed the same process for the names.
Next, I went over the pencil markings with the paint pens and colored in a few of the features.

Following the Pens instructions, I let the paint dry for 24 hours, then baked them for 35 minutes in a 300 degree oven.

Now all you have to do is dress them up and have some fun!

*They are dishwasher safe. We've washed ours, so far so good.
*If you don't want to make your own personalized plate here is one you can buy. This is where I got my inspiration.

Here is a list of parties I link to.

  17. did you transfer the traced features directly onto the plate by rubbing the other side of the picture with a pencil? did the ink transfer onto the plate?

wanna make sure i know what i'm doing!
    thanks

  18. John,
I used a ball point pen to go over the top of my drawing. The lead from the other side was transfered onto the plate.

  34. I LOVE this idea! My daughter is so picky-never wants to try new things, but usually when she does try something new she ends up loving it. SHe would have so much fun with dinner if I made her one of these, plus you can get away with giving them more of a variety of foods while making it fun! Thanks :)

  41. Hello,
I love this idea! I was so excited to try it until I found this article. Pebeo paints aren't suited to come into contact with food. I had NO idea!! I was shocked & disappointed to learn such a thing. Had to cross off quite a few things on my to-do list.

But I am still wanting to do this project & hang them as display plates! Thank you for the inspiration.

    Cheers,
Heather @ Find That Warm Fuzzy Feeling

  42. Can you use a Corelle plate? Did anyone research the reasoning behind NOT using the Pebeo pens? Some girls I know used Sharpie markers and baked the plates, but not sure if they were going to use the plates for decoration or for eating.....
