Clair's Christmas Dress

As usual I insisted my girls have matching dresses for the Holidays. I know it's a sickness. The fact that I couldn't find three that matched, in all the right sizes, didn't stop me either. I had NO choice but to make Clair's.

Kate on the left is showing the original dress purchased for her and big sister Lydia. Clair on the right is wearing her copy-cat dress made by me. Although I couldn't find the exact same materials, I think it's a pretty good match.

She loves it and declares herself a princess every time she wears it.

I was quite proud of myself, making my own pattern and once again using an invisible zipper.

Okay, I took my first leap and went with non-traditional colors for a Christmas dress. Maybe next year I can take another leap and get them dresses that don't match.

On another side note, I found it interesting that I really didn't save much money making the dress myself. Luckily I got all my fabric at 50% off plus and extra 20%. In the end I spent $16 on supplies and the original dress cost $25. I would have gladly paid ten dollars and saved myself the time.

super cute - you did a great match job. Another option is to buy the big size and cut it apart to make a small size in the same fabrics....

Well done! I agree, there are often times it's just easier to find a dress on sale than make one. :)

Im like you and like things matchy matchy. Unfortunately miss 9 doesn't want to wear the exact same dress as miss 6 anymore. So now I buy dresses in the same colour range. This year it was red and grey. I can live with that. lol

I think $9 is still a good savings, but you're right about saving time especially saving precious time before Christmas ('tis the season to be busy)

Great job. When my three were little there were many occasions where they had matching outfits... and my youngest is a boy! They are past this stage now that they are grown up.

You did an amazing job matching the original pattern! I never would have thought it was homemade. I do agree with saving the time and just buying kid's clothes. You can usually find them so inexpensively on sale that it's worth saving the time too. But you show with skill how to reproduce them! :o) Thanks for sharing.

i love to sew but if you have to buy fabric you rarely save money. so frustrating!

the dress looks perfect though! you did a great job matching the fabric and the style of dress.
