trick or treat sign

I wanted to share with you how I put together this fun Trick or Treat sign using stuff I already had around the house.  The only thing I had to buy was .99 cent can of black spray paint.  You don't need to be an artist. If you can trace you can make your own.

I used this old board I found in my garage. It was left over from THIS project. Any old board or cupboard door would work.

First thing I did was spray paint the frame and edges black.  It took a couple of coats. Next I used my orange craft pain to paint the inner section of my board. It looks better when you take your time. Use thinner coats and make sure each coat is completely dry.

Next I added my lettering. I got my font for free from THIS site. They have lots of great fonts that would work for any halloween project. I used the Carnivalee. I typed out my letters in Microsoft Word and used a 350 size font.

I printed the letters and used a lead pencil transfer technique to get them on my board.
I laid my letters upside down on another piece of white paper.  Then I scribbled over all the outside lines with my pencil. Once all the lines were covered with lead I was ready to transfer the image onto the board. I Flipped it back over and positioned it where I wanted it and traced over all the lines.

See, letters transfered onto the board.
I just traced and filled in lines with black craft paint.

I added the witch the same way. I googled "witch silhouette images" and found lots of options.
The original image didn't include the moon.  I traced a bowl for mine.

That's it, once it dried she was ready to hang.

I'll be linking HERE.

That is the cutest sign! I adore it and you didn't have to buy anything. Amazing!

I shared it over at TT&J FB page :)

Love the entire display. Great use of a random piece of wood. I'm a bit confused about the pencil transfer technique. Is there another blog post or link showing it? Perhaps it's the late hour and in the morning it will click.
