$1 t-shirt refashion

I bought this t-shirt from Walmart last week for $1. It's a juniors shirt but, I thought it would make the perfect dresses for my daughters. They both think they are singing stars.
I was a little big in the chest to start.
The first step to trimming it down was turning the shirt inside out. Then I turned one of her shirts inside out. Laying her shirt over the shirt I marked where the seams should be.
Then I serged the new lines. If you don't have a serger you can sew a regular seam then zig-zag the edges.
Next I used an old yellow t-shirt form my sisters goodwill pile for lots of ruffles.
I cut lots of 1" strips and sewed down the middle with elastic thread. I added the gathered strips around the sleeves and for a flower in the middle of the neck line.
The elastic thread made the sleeves bunch. Cute for sleeves, not for the hem. I gathered those strips by using the longest stitch on my machine and gathering by hand.

It was super simple. Don't you love yellow and gray together?

I did have more pictures of the process but my camera is having issues. Ruffles and Stuff just posted a tutorial using the same technique here.

Here is a list of parties I link to.
