Teacher Gifts

We're back, and had a fabulous time. Seriously, is there anything better than taking a 3 year old to meet all her favorite characters. It's been really hard to come back to reality.
Here is one of the projects I didn't have time to post before our trip.

After seeing THIS post from Small Words, I knew I wanted to make paintings for our teachers this year. Once I set my heart on something, I don't usually give it up. I didn't have a lot of time the last week of school and didn't have a car to run and buy the canvas I needed, so you would think I would give in and do something else. No, instead I started these at 9 pm the night before the last day of school. They are not perfect, but I was proud that I was able to get them done so quickly.
I had to keep them simple with so little time, but they work.

I felt bad because by the time I got to Mrs. J's picture. I was really out of time. I was forced to just do her initial. In the end, I think I liked it more than the other.
I think the fun vibrant colors will look good in their class rooms.

At the same time, I've decided it's awkward to give handmade gifts like this. What if they don't like it, and have to pretend they do, since I made it? It doesn't hurt my feelings if they don't like it, people like different things. Do you ever feel weird about giving something you made?

YES I always feel weird and nervous about giving homemade things. Some people I know appreicate it, but you can't tell with others. Love the picture of Tinkerbell and you daughter!

Homemade gifts are tricky. People are always happy with the homemade food gift, because everyone's gotta eat...and who doesn't love a basket of homemade baguettes and freezer jam? But other gifts depend on the person. I would be just as thrilled to get a gift that came second hand and was purchased at a thrift store, as something brand new. I mean, who cares if it's something the giver knew I would love?

Those signs are totally cute. And what teacher wouldn't appreciate them? I'm sure they'll be thrilled to not get something personal and not another bath n body travel soap gift set.

I definitely feel awkward giving a handmade gift unless I know the person well enough to know they'll like the gift. But, at least they know you took the time to make something rather than just buying something you didn't even put thought into!

Okay, you scared me there for a minute! I thought you were already making teacher gifts for this coming year!

Those turned out super cute, and Tinkerbell is gorgeous!

the picture of Tink and your baby girl is pure MAGIC!
i think anyone would be thrilled to receive one of those paintings, but there is a nervousness that goes along with handmade gifts. even if it's not someone's fave they probably love that you spent time on something just for them, that's how i always feel:O)

I don't feel wierd giving things I made to family, because my family always appreciates them. But I learned the hard way that some people don't. I pick and choose who I give the handmade things to.

I always feel awkward giving homemade things! Like you, I don't mind if people don't like them and wouldn't care if they were regifted to someone who would. I made the girls' take the gifts to their teachers because I didn't want them to feel pressured into acting like they loved them in front of me.

I just wanted to chime in here - my sister is a teacher and every year at Christmas she complains about all the "cheap" lotion she gets. She appreciates the thought, but she ends up just throwing it all away. Whenever she gets a homemade gift, especially something her students have helped to make, she loves it! So keep it up!!

I have found that giving a funny tag with the gift helps. It can say how you feel, without making you say anything. Check out Angry Chicken's gift tags :D
